PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

According to latest information provided to Parliament, 6.34 lakh installations have been finished and around 1.45 crore registrations have been made under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.

  • The goal of this government initiative, which was introduced on February 15, 2024, is to give Indian homes free power.
  • Households will receive financial assistance under the program to put solar panels on their rooftops.
  • Up to 40% of the cost of the solar panels will be covered by the subsidy.
  • Up to 300 units of free electricity per month would be provided to one crore homes, saving them up to Rs 18,000 a year.
  • The program is expected to reduce the government’s annual electricity expenses by Rs. 75,000 crore.
  • The plan will be implemented until FY 2026–2027 and has an expenditure of Rs 75,021 crore.

Eligibility:

  • The household must be an Indian citizen.
  • The household must own a house with a roof that is suitable for installing solar panels.
  • The household must have a valid electricity connection.
  • The household must not have availed any other subsidy for solar panels.

As State Implementation Agencies (SIAs) under the program, DISCOMs are in charge of enabling a number of measures, including as prompt inspection, commissioning of facilities, and net meter availability.

  • Based on their success in installing more grid-connected rooftop solar capacity than a baseline, DISCOMs will be eligible for rewards.
  • The “Incentives to DISCOMs” component has a total budget of Rs 4,950 crore.
